Region 1 Tourism Summit Opens in Candon City

CANDON CITY, Ilocos Sur — The Region 1 Tourism Summit officially opened on Wednesday, September 17, at Hotel Van Gogh in this city, bringing together key players in the tourism industry from across the Ilocos Region.
The three-day summit, which runs until September 19, gathers representatives from the Department of Tourism, provincial and city tourism offices, local government units, private sector stakeholders, and community leaders. The event carries the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation.”
Regional officials said the summit aims to strengthen tourism programs in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and Pangasinan by focusing on sustainability, infrastructure development, heritage preservation, and community-based initiatives.
Workshops and plenary sessions will tackle pressing issues such as improving tourism facilities, ensuring the legitimacy of tour operators, promoting local products, and preserving cultural and natural heritage sites.
Organizers also highlighted the importance of positioning Region 1 as a premier destination in Northern Luzon while ensuring that economic benefits reach local communities.
The summit is expected to produce a regional tourism framework and new partnerships that will guide tourism development in the coming years.
Candon City officials expressed pride in hosting the event, noting that it also showcases the city’s growing potential as a tourism and business hub in Ilocos Sur.
