Vigan City, Ilocos Sur — In celebration of Tourism Month, the Provincial Tourism Office successfully held a Community Tour Guiding Seminar from September 24 to 30, 2025 at the Provincial Farmers Livelihood and Development Center in Vigan City. The week-long training aimed to enhance the skills of aspiring tour guides and strengthen the local tourism industry of Ilocos Sur.
The seminar provided participants with comprehensive lectures on the fundamentals of tour guiding, tourism ethics, local history, and cultural appreciation. Resource speakers emphasized the importance of storytelling, visitor engagement, and accurate historical knowledge in order to deliver a quality experience to both local and international tourists.
Aside from classroom sessions, the training also featured mock tours and practical demonstrations, allowing participants to apply their learning in simulated guiding activities. This hands-on approach gave them the opportunity to practice guiding techniques, improve confidence, and receive constructive feedback from trainers and peers.
The initiative was part of the Provincial Tourism Office’s ongoing programs to professionalize community-based tourism services and ensure that guides are well-prepared to represent Ilocos Sur’s heritage, culture, and attractions. By equipping locals with proper training, the province hopes to promote responsible tourism and strengthen its reputation as a premier cultural destination.
Participants expressed enthusiasm and gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the program not only expanded their knowledge but also inspired them to contribute to the preservation and promotion of Ilocano heritage.
The Community Tour Guiding Seminar is one of the highlights of the month-long celebration of Tourism Month in Ilocos Sur, reflecting the province’s commitment to capacity-building and sustainable tourism development.
